Synopsis
Knowledge of the weather – as instantaneous information and especially as prediction capability - has proven to be an asset not only for commercial and financial reasons but more and more for strategic positioning, geo-politics and unfortunately also war. It has shaped our cultures, our faiths and our way to live and socialize. People are and behave in no negligible part mirroring the weather of their lands. One way or another. This has made Earth Observation, Meteorology and Climate study such an important discipline, international organisation like EUMETSAT, NOAA or CMA have been funded understanding the importance of this sector and have grown tremendously over the last 40 years, providing to the global citizens an unimaginable added value of safety, food security, wealth, commerce, transportation and well being.
But now… even if not all have yet realised it, we are on the verge of a profound change.
