The origin of the universe has always intrigued the human mind, but never before have we been so close to understanding the first stages of cosmic evolution. Recent advances in particle physics and accurate astronomical observations provide an increasingly convincing picture of the processes that ignited the Big Bang. The story of how we came to infer the existence of the Big Bang and understand its inner workings is one of the most extraordinary scientific adventures ever accomplished by humanity. In this presentation, we will retrace the story from the first empirical confirmations to the frontiers of current scientific research. It is a path to discovery that goes beyond its scientific domain and affects multiple spheres of human thought.
